Tratto da un racconto di uno scrittore taiwanese all’epoca al bando, spesso citato come un punto di svolta nel passaggio della Corea da una censura restrittiva verso una maggiore libertà di espressione, il film si concentra sull’amicizia tra due protagonisti della classe operaia: Chilsu, un loquace cartellonista che fatica a mantenere un impiego, e Mansu, un lavoratore capace e motivato, la cui vita è però frenata dal fatto che il padre è un simpatizzante comunista “non rieducato”.
