Plot
The Widow (1955) è il primo film coreano diretto da una donna. Park Nam-ok, che lavorava nel cinema coreano come sceneggiatrice, lo realizzò coraggiosamente in mezzo alle difficoltà (non potendo permettersi una balia, portava sulla schiena la figlia di un anno sul set). È uno sguardo acuto e realistico sulla psicologia della donna del dopoguerra, con una protagonista divisa fra amore e maternità. Purtroppo l’ultima scena del film è andata perduta.
The Widow (1955) was the first Korean film to be directed by a woman. Screenwriter Park Nam-ok courageously managed to make it despite many hardships (unable to afford a nanny, she carried her one-year-old daughter on her back to the set). It is an insightful and realistic look at the psychology of post-war Korean women, with a protagonist who is torn between love and motherhood. Unfortunately the final scene of the film has been lost.
